About Money•nom•x

Moneynomx (money-nom-x) is a financial education company that uses a bottom-up approach to help the underserved connect with a financial professional who will help them build a personal financial plan guided by their unique lived experiences. We design and deliver customized financial programs that help people understand the root causes behind their financial behaviours and empower them to make informed financial decisions with confidence to increase their overall financial wellness while building generational wealth.

We serve all. Especially Women.

Women face discrimination in pay compared to their male counterparts and therefore have less to save and invest. This gap is compounded by unpaid time off and other leaves for caregiving which result in even less income for retirement

Women are more likely to become a single parent and sole financial decision maker

Women are more likely to borrow for day to day expenses and accumulate consumer debt

Women face greater barriers to access financing and credit and receive less which can result in lower credit scores

Women exhibit lower confidence when making financial decisions

Women report higher levels of debt related mental health issues and stress

And this is made worse for visible minority women in Canada

Cynthia Bour

Founder, financial consultant

The goal of creating more opportunities for future generations

I grew up watching my parents navigate the overwhelming and confusing Canadian financial marketplace. They struggled with language barriers, a lack of understanding of their specific needs and priorities, predatory lending, and the stress of making financial decisions which took a toll on the family. Despite their desire for me to become a medical professional, I knew that becoming a financial professional would better equip me to take advantage of the opportunities in Canada and avoid the financial struggles they faced.

Even as an Economics and Finance graduate, financial education alone is not enough for financial success

After earning a Honours Degree in Economics and Finance, I learned that formal financial education alone was not enough for financial success. I was investing in a tax-sheltered account and lived below my means, but still found that my net worth was decreasing. I lacked a robust personal financial plan and made a number of mistakes, such as using my credit card as emergency funds, buying high-risk investments with high fees, letting old collection accounts sit on my credit report, and loaning money I didn’t have to people who were in no position to pay me back. These mistakes among many others taught me that identifying my financial behaviours, correcting my negative financial habits, and managing my personal finances were just as important as investing.

Paying it forward by sharing my lessons and successes with others

My 10+ year career started with roles in debt collections, accounting, and taxation. I later obtained my license as an Investment Representative and worked with employee share ownership plans and private wealth investors. Exclusively working with high net worth professionals and business owners in private wealth management exposed me to the sophisticated investing strategies they use to accumulate and preserve their financial assets and build generational wealth. I currently serve as the Treasurer on the board of directors of the Rexdale Community Health Centre and enjoy mentoring young women in the financial services industry. I am committed to paying it forward and making a positive impact.

I am a firm believer in the importance of understanding and recognizing the unique experiences of people from underserved communities, and this has always been a cornerstone of my approach for building confidence and generational wealth.
